Somali Breed Winners in CFA

The first Somali Breed Winner, GC, BW, NW Foxtail's Rio Grande

In the 2001-2002 show season, CFA began giving out a new title – Breed Winner, which is abbreviated as BW. This title is quite exclusive, being given to ONLY ONE cat in each breed or division in a given year – the highest scoring cat for that breed or division in the Championship class.

Although the award began in that season, CFA is retroactively adding the title to Breed Winners of previous years. In this article, Best of Breed was researched back to the 1966-67 show season where the best of breed cats were first listed in the CFA yearbooks, and these cats are listed below.

Although CFA may not have yet updated their records to add the BW title to the cats listed below, the cats have earned the right to use the BW title.

The Somali was first accepted in CFA in 1979, and their first Breed Winner was GC, BW, NW Foxtail's Rio Grande, a ruddy male. The first female Breed Winner was in 1989-90, a red named GC, BW, RW Lynn-Lee's Risen Star of Silkpaws .
