British Shorthair Breed Winners in CFA

 

First NW British Shorthair, GG, BW, NW Jedi Issy Blue

In the 2001-2002 show season, CFA began giving out a new title – Breed Winner, which is abbreviated as BW. This title is quite exclusive, being given to ONLY ONE cat in each breed or division in a given year – the highest scoring cat for that breed or division in the Championship class.

Although the award began in that season, CFA is retroactively adding the title to Breed Winners of previous years. In this article, Best of Breed was researched back to the 1966-67 show season where the best of breed cats were first listed in the CFA yearbooks.

The British Shorthair was first accepted for competition with CFA in 1980, and the breed winners from that point forward are listed below. Although CFA may not have yet updated their records to add the BW title to the cats listed below, the cats have earned the right to use the BW title.

For the British Shorthair, the first Breed Winner was GC, BW Snowmaiden of Denimar , a copper-eyed white female, who earned the award in 1980-81. The first male Breed Winner occured 2 years later, in 1982-83, earned by a copper-eyed white male named GC, BW, RW Beaufort Argonaut of Tigerlily.
