The highest achievement in the CFA show ring is accomplished when a cat successfully earns the title of National Winner (NW). CFA established the title of Grand Champion in 1930 and the title of National Winner first appeared in 1971. In CFA, each year the top 25 cats in Championship, 25 Kittens and 25 cats in Premiership are awarded the NW title.
While the first "self browns" appeared in Europe in the early 1890s, it really wasn't until the 1950s that any systematic work went into developing this breed. The first Havana Brown (called the Chestnut Brown at the time), was registered in England in 1954. They were accepted by CFA for championship status in 1964.
It wasn't until the 1975-76 show season that the Havana Brown had their first National Winner - a female named GC, NW Aragon's Tia Maria who was 16th Best Cat.
To date, only one Havana Brown has earned a "Best" in any of the categories - in the 1995-96 show season, GP, NW Timberwild Mr Bold of Serendipty, a male, was CFA's Best Alter.
