If you are going to campaign a kitten, it is essential that you know what the counts for each show were the previous season.
This is a trick the "old-hands" at campaigning know all about.
The counts for the previous year help predict what the counts will be for this season... which in turn will help you choose the best show for your kitten each week.
.
To see how to use the past season's show counts to help you campaign in the current season, read the article Campaigning A Kitten |
Analyzing last years counts can be a time-consuming and exhausting chore.
So we have done it for you!
The counts for kittens for the entire season have been analyzed and presented in three ways:
-
First, the counts are presented week-by-week. This table will help you compare the counts for all the shows for each week to choose your best possibility.
- Secondly, the counts for the complete year are ranked from highest to lowest. This will help you plan a campaign months in advance, with your eye towards those highest count shows that will really move your kitten forward in the standings. This is especially critical for a kitten campaign at the national level since most kittens are born early in the year, turn 4 months mid-summer and age out by the end of the year, it means kitten counts are low at the first of the show season in May, begin to increase by August, peak in the fall and then begin to fall off again in January...
- Thirdly, we have compiled a table with the shows and their counts for each state for the entire year. Use this table to see which shows have good enough counts for your campaign - and that are handy for you to get too! Check out which shows are most handy for your competition too - it will help you predict which cats might turn up at which shows. It pays to be able to predict your competition.
Goal Number
The 2004-2205 show season saw the number of National and Regional titles awarded in Kittens increased from Top 20 to Top 25 , matching the top 25 of Championship. (Yea!)
When you decide to campaign a kitten, your first step is to determine your goal number for each show. Your goal number is the minimum number of points you need to earn/ring to reach your campaign goal.
So, for instance, if your goal is a national win, your minimum goal number is the number of points per ring earned by 25th of the previous season. For the 2004-2005 season, the kitten in 25th spot nationally earned 2713.50 points in w0 rings, or an average of 67.84 points/ring. Your goal number for a national win in Kittens would be 68 points. You use this goal number to evaluate the shows worth attending. For instance, if a show has a total count of 70 Kittens, and you think you can be Best or 2nd in every ring, it would earn you a usable (top 400 rings) ring count. However. If a show has a count of 60 kittens, even if you are Best across the board and earned a 59 RPA, it is unlikely that the rings would end up in your top 400 rings if you were to earn an NW. Going to the smaller show, no matter if your were Best across the board would not contribute to your national campaign. Of course, as you "crunch" your numbers, you may discover that a lower placement at a higher count show earns you more points than a Best at a lower count show. That's called strategizing! :-). Or, making half the finals at a high count show earns you a better RPA than all the finals at a lower count show.
