Participants in the Junior Showmanship classes of CFA received a big dose of encouragement when the Executive Board of Directors agreed to allow novices in the Junior Showmanship Program to show their household pets effective May 1, 2004.
Until this change, children wishing to compete in the Junior Showmanship class were forced to have a registered purebred - a restriction which may have prevented many enthusiastic future fanciers from participating in the JS program. Obviously, there may be many children who are cat lovers who own only an unpapered "moggie" who may now enter and exhibit their beloved pet in the JS class.
From that first taste of exhibiting, the hope is that the child's love of cats will develop into the desire to show and breed purebreds.
