The 2020-2021 CFA show season is officially over.
Normally our first issue of May is devoted to congratulating the National Winning and Breed Winning cats in CFA.
However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year, the CFA Board faced a difficult decision. At the June meeting in 2020, with all shows having been cancelled for at least the next several months, the CFA Board elected not to award National or Breed Winners for the season.
No one knew when the cat shows would restart. Even once some shows began occurring again, it would not be a uniform opening throughout the CFA family. The CFA executive board decided it wouldn't be fair to award national titles when not all regions would have the opportunity to compete.
A Few Shows Trickle Back . . .
On a positive note, shows did start coming back on a very small scale in the late summer of 2020, with the first show being held August 2 in Japan, by Nishi Nihon Cat Club. It was another month before the second show was held when the Malaysia Cat Fanciers Club held a show in Thailand on September 5, 2020.
October saw two CFA shows successfully held — one in Europe (Sherwood Manx Club in Finland) and one in China (Mountain City Cat Fanciers).
In November 2020, there were a total of 10 shows for the month, including the first two shows held in the United States: Cotton States Cat Club in Region 7 with a show on November 7, and Frontier Feline Fanciers in Region 6 on November 28.
In all, there were 59 CFA cat shows held over the course of the 2020-2021 season.
Four CFA regions were not able to hold a show during the 2020-2021 show season that began May 1, 2020.
In all, the number of cat shows held in CFA for the 2020-21 show season was:
Region |
Number of shows |
Region 1 (North Atlantic) | 0 |
Region 2 (Northwest) | 0 |
Region 3 (Gulf Shore) | 3 |
Region 4 (Great Lakes) | 0 |
Region 5 (Southwest) | 0 |
Region 6 (Midwest) | 5 |
Region 7 (Southern) | 8 |
Region 8 (Japan) | 13 |
Region 9 (Europe) | 3 |
International | 27 |
There Is Good News
There will be a few Regional Winners to report in our later issues.
The CFA Board elected to award Regional Winner titles to those kitties that did attend shows, with some changes to the normal rules. The requirement to show at least one time within your own region was removed, and the minimum point threshold for an RW was reduced:
- Kittens: 200 points
- Championship: 400 points
- Premiership: 200 points
- HHP: 100 points
We hope the COVID-19 pandemic will soon be over and we can all resume a more normal existence — including enjoying taking our kitties to cat shows, meeting face-to-face with our fancier friends, and celebrating our love of cats together.
